My very good friend Katie will also be studying in England this year. She will start the first of her three year PhD work in a few days. She was actually supposed to leave on the 9th, last Tuesday, but her student visa has not come. When we submitted our visa applications they said it would take 5-10 business days to process. Well, here we are, three weeks later and nothing. Katie e-mailed the British Consulate and they said they have a back log of applications and it will take 12 days to process. Well, the 12th day came and went and Katie had to move her flight back to the 18th. Meanwhile, she wrote them again and they confirmed that they had received her visa application and that it will take another three business days to process. Which means, she will be cutting it short again, hoping that her visa arrives before she's supposed to leave.
She called me last night to give me the heads up. I'm not leaving for another two weeks, but it has got me nervous. I e-mailed the British Consulate as well and hopefully they'll give me an ETA on the visas. Here's hoping...
